In the Works Dance Studio
The local Horsefly Dance Studio, specializing in Ballet and Jazz, was formed six years ago by Corinne Stromsten. Corinne has danced since the age of seven, and is trained in R.A.D & Cecchetti Ballet.
Lily Come Down
A fresh Canadian Folk band with feel-good sound. Blending intoxicating melodies with fun rhythms and innovative harmonies, our self-titled release, Lily Come Down, demonstrates our bands considerable skill in songwriting and arrangement. With broad influences fused together Lily Come Down is a new brand of Fiesty Folk!
The Sofakings
The Sofakings let the music do the talking. They get the crowd going with cover tunes from John Mellencamp to The Tragically Hip.
Mamaguroove
Lyrically, their songs express a strong connection to working, raising families, and addressing social and political issues that are found both in their own backyard and the world abroad. Musically, their songs are as diverse as their influences of Funk, Reggae, Ska, World Beat, Acapella, Folk, and most importantly - Rock n' Roll. Although individual members contribute song ideas and lyrics to the group, Mamaguroove takes great pride in arranging their tunes together as a band.
Pink Strings & Borderline
Borderline is a group of young Cariboo girls singing in a country/rock band. Their unique, lively sound features Sage Trampleasure on fiddle, as well as musicians on guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. They sing songs by artists such as Keith Urban, Dixie Chicks, Taylor Swift, Hanna Montana and CCR, as well as several animated original tunes that include 'Hey, Galahad', 'Plastic Pink Corvette' and 'The Frog.'
the wingdamramblers
From the Cariboo region of Western Canada, the wingdamramblers are Murray Boal and Bob Campbell - an organic farmer/carpenter and a music teacher/chef - with common ground and a desire to create contemporary folk-based music. Murray and Bob have been playing music collectively and otherwise for decades now, and their candid songwriting still wins them fans and friends wherever they go.
Yael Wand
Yael Wand's unique sound draws from a variety of traditional forms - Appalachian, Celtic and Israeli folk to name a few - and adds a touch of jazzy sophistication and global instrumentation. Her mezzo soprano voice is as pure and clear as the air in her Barkerville home, and her arrangements are spacious and rootsy, combining guitar, upright bass and cello with hints of ukulele, tabla, and flugelhorn.
Sideffectx
Horsefly's youngest rock band was formed almost 2 years ago. Lead singer Braden is accompanied by Trake on guitar, Charlie on bass and Cameron who is a wizard on the drums. They write their own songs and are a crowd favorite.
Mission Dance Centre
Out of Kelowna, the Mission Dance Centre is a modern dance company. They will take you into the world of Flamenco , Ballet and modern Dance.
Linda McRae
Canadian singer/songwriter Linda McRae is a multi-instrumentalist, Juno nominated, Platinum and Gold recording artist. After having tenured as bassist, accordionist and vocalist with Canadian Roots group Spirit of the West Linda left the band in 1997 to resume her solo career and has since released three critically acclaimed recordings.
Stuart McLeod as "ELVIS"
Stuart first saw a tribute to Elvis in the mid 80's and something clicked. Stuart knew he had the impressive singing talent and could perform the crucial moves required. Stuart performs solo with his own show, "In Memory of the King", thrilling audiences.
Tim Readman Band
Tim Readman has been popular and in demand on the Celtic music scene for years. He's played with the best. His live show is funny, entertaining and high energy. He is artistic director of CelticFest Vancouver. Fiddler Jennie Bice is a master of all styles and her solos will knock your socks off. Allan Dionne is a fine accordionist and player of all manner of drums and percussion. He just returned from a stint playing with Ashley MacIsaac. Together they rock, as only the Celts can!
Los Rastrillos
Los Rastrillos have been making their mestizo-reggae rhythms for 15 years, alongside internationally known artists like Jimmy Cliff...but don't worry, NOT Menudo! They are known for their use of reggae as a route to self-awareness...but before you raise your eyebrows thinking the group is all "new-agey", have no fear! Their music will capture you with its fusion of reggae inflected with Mexican pop, mixed with jazz, funk, indu and traditional ska

2006
The Horsefly School grounds played host to Arts on the Fly Music and Dance Festival on July 8, 2006. After the blood, sweat and tears of orchestrating an event with just a membership of 7, Arts on the Fly 2006 was a success! Gratefully, many community members and even some who lived in other areas stepped forward, to donate their time before and on, the 'day of'.
About 400 visitors enjoyed themselves here in Horsefly on July 8th. Children of all ages flocked to the 'Imagination Station', where their hula-hooping and face-painting dreams came true! There was a dress-up parade which wound its way through the crowds during a break. Vendors sold their wares, some with handmade creations.
Our talented performer line-up, with its diversity of musical genres from out of the area, were:
- Outlaw Social (Bluegrass)
- Yael Wand (Folk)
- the skedaddlers (Old-Time Music with a Twist)
- Clann Cara (Celtic)
- Bloodties (Rock), Carmen and Friends (Folk), Plan 'B' (Blues/ Rock) and Geoff Patenaude with Chris Elwick (Folk) made up the local contribution.
