ARTS ON THE FLY SUCCESS OF EVENT 2006

The Horsefly School grounds played host to Arts on the Fly Music and Dance Festival on July 8, 2006. After the blood, sweat and tears of orchestrating an event with just a membership of 7, Arts on the Fly 2006 was a success! Gratefully, many community members and even some who lived in other areas stepped forward, to donate their time before and on, the 'day of'.

About 400 visitors enjoyed themselves here in Horsefly on July 8th. Children of all ages flocked to the 'Imagination Station', where their hula-hooping and face-painting dreams came true! There was a dress-up parade which wound its way through the crowds during a break. Vendors sold their wares, some with handmade creations. If you are artistically inclined...or not, and would like to sell items, edible or not, on our Arts on the Fly Marketplace, please 'click here' and get in contact with our Vendor Co-ordinator Hilda Orange.

Our talented performer line-up, with its diversity of musical genres from out of the area, were Outlaw Social (Bluegrass), Yael Wand (Folk), the skedaddlers (Old-Time Music with a Twist) and Clann Cara (Celtic). Bloodties (Rock) Carmen and Friends (Folk), Plan 'B' (Blues/ Rock) and Geoff Patenaude with Chris Elwick (Folk) made up the local contribution.

'Decked out in her finest, Christina Mary brought colour to Arts on the Fly 2006. Together with another young-at-heart volunteer, she (wo)manned the 'Imagination Station'. John Bottomley of the skedaddlers in background, he who raised Cain onstage with fireball Wyckham Porteous.'

Horsefly's own In The Works Dance Studio wowed with Jazz and Ballet. Lovely Veronika Plamper excelled in the sinuous art of Middle Eastern Dance.

'Clann Cara' out of Prince George BC, fulfilled our Celtic portion of the Festival.
They will be returning for July 6 & 7 2007!

'As dusk began to show off its cobalt hues, the energy levels were stirred to new heights with the introduction of Victoria BC's Bluegrass bunch, 'Outlaw Social'.

'With a purity of voice, Yael Wand out of Smithers, BC charms festivalgoers with her lyrical Folk creations.

'Carmen Mutschele and Pauline Williams face the festival crowd to reveal their talents.'

'Nora Nicol and Nancy LeBourdais, Horsefly 'lifers', huddle together under an umbrella. As with all other outdoor events, Arts on the Fly was at the mercy of Mother Nature. Rain fell throughout late afternoon, intermittent with blessed moments of sunshine.

"Music? Not for me, when I have something better!" Tuning everything else out, Soul focuses on his chocolatey object of desire on festival grounds.'
