WHO IS ARTS ON THE FLY, ANYWAY?

Arts on the Fly began as a typical small town 'everyone knows everyone else's business' scenario.  A couple of friends would run into each other at a local Horsefly hotspot and share their visions of an event which would both promote tourism in the area and fulfill their zeal for All Things Creative.  Through similar conversations with other locals a common thread was woven, and a meeting was called.

List of original Arts on the Fly members:  Chanti Holtl, Cindy Isaac, Klara Henz, Dina Stephenson, Dora Gasser, Carmen Mutschele, Taina Sipponen, Christina Mary, Corinne Stromsten.  They worked diligently.  How did they manage, with 19 young children among them?  Kudos to all of you!

'Here we are, the current (as of May 2008 representatives of Arts on the Fly.  From right: : Dina Stephenson, Carmen Mutschele, Wayde Stromsten & Corinne Stromsten. Arts on the Fly has 2 more great representatives, Bobby & Tim Best, who are sadly not in the picture.'

Later as some members left, some new ones joined.

'Our fearless carpenter Charlie Bland (Director), arrives for a meeting. Looks as if he could make some improvements on the old woodshed behind him!'

Arts on the Fly went under the umbrella of the William's Lake Arts Council in order to connect with a well-established non-profit organization, for networking purposes and to share their non-profit status.  Fundraisers consisted of coffeehouse events, phone calls and handouts of the 'beggar letter'.  Their cause was advertised on CBC radio as well as a local station, in the newspaper and on television.  With the support of caring volunteers, a large stage was constructed.  There were many jobs for the few Arts on the Fly members. Countless tasks!

Thank you to everyone who lent a helping hand or two!  By July 2006 the Horsefly School grounds were transformed into Festival grounds.  ARTS ON THE FLY 2006, was launched!  It was a success!  What started out as Horsefly chitchat among locals, which grew in its intensity of passion, blossomed into fruition.  The vision had become the reality. **(click here for PAST EVENT  Impressions)**
